Professional proofreading before printing and publication
Maxime Collins inc.
On packaging, an ad, a layout, or a financial report, an error can go unnoticed until the very end of the process. After several rounds of reading and validation, the eye gets used to the text, and certain typos are no longer as easy to catch. We come in with a fresh eye to spot what slipped through earlier stages.

Understanding the service
The protection that proofreading provides
Once the text has been written, translated, revised, and laid out, certain errors can still remain. After many rounds of reading the same document, the human eye stops noticing certain typos. Our team comes in with fresh eyes to catch what slipped through earlier stages.
Unlike revision, which focuses on clarity, structure, and style, proofreading is performed on the final version of the document, often on its layout. We work directly in the layout file or final format, and we check both the language and the visual presentation.
For businesses that put content out to the general public, such as food packaging, ads, or printed brochures, any visible error can hurt brand reputation. We make sure your documents are compliant, ready to be distributed, and free of any error that may have slipped past your quality assurance.
What proofreading allows you to catch
Three dimensions of verification, for documents you can publish with confidence.
Typos and typographic errors
After many hours of work on the same document, the eye gets used to the text and certain errors can go unnoticed. We catch typos, punctuation errors, missing or extra spaces, and incorrect quotation marks before publication.
Layout and presentation
Once the document has been laid out, certain details slip past the eye more easily. We check text alignment, line breaks, widows and orphans, font consistency, and fidelity to the source document, where applicable.
Consistency and compliance
Some elements leave no room for error, such as proper names, registered trademarks, phone numbers, web addresses, and factual data. We make sure everything is accurate and compliant with your industry’s standards.

01
Document reception
You send us your document in its laid-out version (PDF, layout file, print proof) along with the original source document, if you have one.
02
Comparative reading
The person in charge compares the laid-out document to the source document to spot any discrepancy: missing text, errors introduced during integration, layout problems, and typos.
03
Detailed verification
Systematic check of typography, punctuation, proper names, registered trademarks, hyperlinks, phone numbers, and all visual and factual elements.
04
Delivery of the annotated document
The document is returned to you with annotated corrections and relevant comments.
Proofreading is offered in both comparative and unilingual formats (French or English). We can also work directly within your internal systems or with the software you use.

Maxime is actually one of the best specialists in the localization industry (FR-CA). We’ve been working in the same company for about 6 years and Maxime took care of proofreading and revising projects for my clients. All tasks assigned to Maxime were completed on time or even in advance, and quality was always there.

Frequently asked questions about proofreading
Answers to the most common questions about this service.
What is the difference between proofreading and revision?
Revision is in-depth work on clarity, structure, and style. It comes before layout. Proofreading, on the other hand, is performed on the document already laid out. We look for typos, typographic errors, and presentation issues that slipped in before printing or publication. The two services complement each other.
What types of documents do you proofread?
We can help you with your food product packaging, TV and print ads, marketing layouts, sales pitches, brochures, reports and financial statements, employee handbooks, video subtitles, and audio recordings. We work with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF files, and can also work within your internal systems.
Does proofreading include layout verification?
Yes. The person in charge checks the text (spelling, typography, punctuation) and the visual presentation: alignment, line breaks, font consistency, and fidelity to the source document, if there is one. The two go hand in hand.
How is proofreading billed?
Proofreading is billed at a fixed hourly rate. The time required depends on the type of document, its length (word count), and the quality of the original writing. After review, we can provide you with a detailed estimate. There may be a variation of about 5% from the final cost, depending on the writing quality of the text.
Can you proofread packaging proofs before printing?
Yes, this is one of our specialties. We have been proofreading packaging proofs sold in grocery stores for many years, such as cereals, granola bars, soups, frozen pizzas, desserts, frozen treats, and snacks. Our goal is to make sure the bilingual text, legal disclaimers, and regulatory elements are accurate.
Can you work with text embedded in images or logos?
We cannot automatically extract text embedded in images. In those cases, manual extraction is required, and the service is offered for an additional fee. For the graphic finishing of logos and visual elements, we recommend entrusting that step to a graphic designer.
